4 Weeks In. And I Don't Know What I Don't Know (Yet)

And if you've ever started a new job, you know exactly what this feels like.
You don't know what you don't know. And that's actually fine.
My first four weeks looked a little different
Here's the deal, weeks two and three I wasn't even in the office. My kids had their ODP soccer trip to Europe and I was not about to miss that. What made it even better is that Everpure was gracious enough to let me take the time even though I had literally just started.
That tells you a lot about a place right there.
So yes, I'm four weeks in but really working with about two weeks of actual ramp time. Which means I'm being patient with myself and staying focused on learning before I try to do anything else.
The fastest way to slow yourself down in a new role is to act like you already have all the answers. Real talk, the smartest thing I can do right now is stay curious and keep asking questions.
But here's what I already know
Even with two real weeks under my belt, some things are already clear.
The team is good. Like, really good. I kept hearing it before I got here and now I'm seeing it firsthand. The talent, the energy, the way people think about customers first. That kind of thing shows up fast when you're paying attention.
There's a real opportunity to elevate what we're doing. Not just keep things running, but actually push them further. That's the environment I was looking for and I'm glad I found it.
And getting closer to customers and sales is exactly where I want to be. Technical marketing, evangelism, whatever you want to call it, that lives in a bubble doesn't do much for anybody. You need to be in the conversation, not just behind a slide deck.
Pure Accelerate is already on my mind
I can't say too much yet. But Pure Accelerate is front of mind and I'm genuinely excited about what we're putting together for customers and the market.
The work happening behind the scenes is worth paying attention to. More on that soon.
If you're new to a role right now
Don't rush the ramp. The "I don't know what I don't know" phase doesn't last forever, but the habits you build during it do. Ask the questions. Take the meetings. Introduce yourself first.
The learning curve is part of the job. Might as well enjoy it.
More soon. 👊
